Mashed Potato Recipe Garlic

Photo:Pixabay

To make a special dinner or any special occasion (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas), mashed potato is always a perfect side dish. This mashed potato that I prepared needs only a few ingredients and is simple to make but it's flavorful and the family loves it.

I used Polar white potatoes (it's the one available in the store ), light butter so it is not too fatty and added some garlic because we like the garlicky flavour of it. The result of the mashed potato is almost just the same when using different types of potatoes. It actually ended up creamy and soft because I used a hand mixer. And that garlic flavour was into it.

Ingredients:
  • 5 Potatoes ( Chopped into Chunks same size)
  • 2 tbsp of butter (softened, light)
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 tbsp Garlic (Chopped )(Optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:
  1. Choose the potato that you want and what is available (Yukon golds, Russet Potatoes depending on your location). Peel it, wash it and remove any spots, lumps or knots and cut it into chunks (better if the same size so they will be cooked at the same time)
  2. Place the cut potatoes in a large pot and put water just to cover the potatoes and put pinch of salt (so it will not taste bland). Bring it to a boil then reduce it to medium heat and simmer until it the potatoes are tender-fork (just about 20 minutes). Make sure not to overcook.
  3. When it is cooked, drain the potatoes then put it back in the pan. Add the milk and butter. Mash it with a potato masher or an electric hand mixer if it's available. It will give a smoother consistency. Just make sure not to overdo it. Then add the garlic, then beat it again. Add more milk and butter if it is needed.
  4. Sprinkle some salt and pepper to taste.
  5. You can also add some fresh herbs, Parmesan cheese or some bacon bits and sour cream.
  6. Serve and enjoy with gravy.
